How to Make a Plastic Shower Curtain Non-Wrinkly
- 1). Take the shower curtain out of its packaging and put it immediately into the washing machine. Wash it on cold, and put a few towels in the washing machine with it. Do not wash the shower curtain by itself, as it can rip and get tangled up in the washing machine, causing the washing machine to break. Use the same laundry detergent that you normally use for washing clothes. Adding a quarter cup of vinegar can help get rid of the smell, which can linger even after the shower curtain has been through a full wash cycle.
- 2). Put the shower curtain in the dryer with the towels. Run the dryer on a low setting to avoid overheating the vinyl. Check the curtain in twenty minutes to see if the wrinkles are out. If not, continue drying until the wrinkles are gone.
- 3). Hang up the shower curtain immediately, as allowing it to sit in the dryer will cause new wrinkles to form. Smooth the shower curtain as you hang it. Be careful not to burn yourself on grommets that may still be hot from the dryer.
- 4). Run the hot water in the shower if you have already hung up a wrinkly shower curtain. The hot water will help to eliminate some of the wrinkles, although it will not do as good of a job as the dryer.
- 5). Eliminate plastic wrinkles and chemical smells altogether by purchasing a hemp shower curtain. These shower curtains are naturally antibacterial, can be washed and do not have the problems associated with vinyl shower curtains. (Reference 1)
