Prentice Cooper ATV Trails
- Not all trails are open to ATV riding. ATVs and automated vehicles of any kind are only permitted on trails that are marked with a jeep symbol. These laws are strictly enforced by police and state park officials.
- Some trails are labeled as multi-use, which means that in addition to other ATVs, they may also be frequented by horseback riders, bikers, walkers and runners. Care should be taken not to startle horses, and to ride within the 25 mile per hour speed limit so as to keep everyone safe. Cross country, or off-trail riding, is strictly forbidden, not only for the sake of preservation of the environment and local biology, but also for the sake of others recreating in the state park.
- The terrain of the ATV trails at Prentice Cooper varies widely . Many of the trails are little more than winding dirt roads, with little technical consideration required. However, there are also extremely steep sections, where the trail either narrows or is comprised of uneven rocks and small boulders.
- The open season varies depending on the trail in question and the time of year. Several trails are closed to motorized vehicles during the winter, due to wet weather, snow and ice. Softened trails are more susceptible to erosion and other related environmental damage. In addition, other trails are closed for May and June due to turkey breeding season. During the rest of the year, all trails are open from sunrise to sunset.
