Research In Motion (RIM) is enticing users to come and Play
Tablets have suddenly become a very serious business proposition for the companies. There seems to be a growing demand for these products across the world. The success of Apple iPad has paved way for many new players to explore the opportunity that lies untapped in this segment. In the past one year, we have seen pretty aggressive strides being made by Samsung, LG, Acer and Motorola.
For now most handset players seem to be experimenting with the screen size and trying to ascertain what will click in the market. The Apple iPad has a ten inch screen, while Samsung had introduced a seven inch tablet. LG on the other hand had taken a middle path and launch its Optimus Pad with an 8.9 inch screen.
However, right now there are plenty of options that are available as Samsung Galaxy Tab in itself is now available in three screen sizes – 7", 8.9" and a 10" version. Seeing the momentum in the market even Research in Motion (RIM) has now launched its BlackBerry Playbook in the market. This tablet will have a seven inch screen. This tablet has already been launched in United States and had received more than expected sales on its first day despite not being able to garner favorable reviews.
It's expected that RIM Playbook will be debuting in the Indian market in the month of June itself. There are speculations that Playbook will be launched in three versions – 16GB, 32GB and 64 GB. And all the versions are expected to be priced between Rs. 30,000 to Rs, 40,000.
Other notable features of this handset include 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and 1080p HDMI output. It will also run on the BlackBerry Tablet OS with support for symmetric multiprocessing. There are also0 two 1080p HD cameras for video conferencing and video capture. The front camera is a 3 megapixel one while there's a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera.
There are expectations that Playbook just like the BlackBerry handsets will be able to generate interest in the enterprise segment. However, there's already quite stiff competition in the Indian handset market. Also, there is apprehension in regards to the device as one will have to first install BlackBerry Bridge on their Smartphone to sync the tablet and then use the same.
Though Playbook tablet is still in the nascent stages, but there are already talks afloat in regards to PlayBook2. The second version of tablet is expected to have a 10 inch screen.
