How to Remove a Mid Mount Mower in a John Deere 54C
- 1). Park the lawn tractor on a hard, level surface, set the parking brake and remove the key from the ignition. Pull the mower lever on the left side of the fender deck all the way back. Turn the mower depth adjustment knob located under the operator's seat to the lowest cutting position.
- 2). Pull out the adjustment pins in all four gauge wheels located on all four corners of the mower deck; turn the wheels 90 degrees. Place the adjustment pins back into the gauge wheels to hold the wheels in place.
- 3). Move the mower lever all the way forward and lock it into position,;the deck gauge wheels should be touching the ground. Locate the tensioner handle on the left side of the mower deck, push down on the handle and pull out to relieve the belt tension. Slide off the primary deck belt from the mower jack sheave and the electric PTO pulley.
- 4). Locate the draft rod assembly at the front of the lawn tractor under the muffler, pull out and push down on the assembly until it loosens, then remove the draft rod assembly. Locate the J-pins at the rear of the mower deck on each side, in front of the rear wheels. Pull out the J-pins on each side and turn the pin 90 degrees to the unlock position.
- 5). Push the mower lever forward and press the release button, then pull all the way back. Slide the mower deck out of the right side of the lawn tractor.
