- 1). Remove the contents of your coffee can (throw away the lid) and wash out with soapy water. Rinse well and dry completely.
- 2). Poke holes into your coffee can by laying the can on its side and piercing it with the pointy end of your can opener. Try to put at least 20 holes into the sides of your coffee can. Do not put holes in the bottom of the can. This will be your cooking surface.
- 3). Stack your charcoal on a nonflammable surface (a driveway or a slab of concrete will work well) and douse with lighter fluid. Light with a match.
- 4). Place the metal coffee can (open side down) over the charcoal stack when the flames subside. The time it takes for the flames to die down will depend on how much lighter fluid you use.
- 5). Place your food on top of the can and cook.
