Betaxolol Side Effects
- There are some relatively common side effects that are often linked to betaxolol. These side effects are generally no need for concern, as they usually go away as the body becomes accustomed to the new medication. However, if the side effects get worse or persist, it is a smart idea to consult a doctor. These common side effects include insomnia, depression, diarrhea, constipation, stomach cramps, vomiting, weakness, "realistic" dreams, problems with vision, fatigue, drowsiness, feeling lightheaded, hallucinations and nausea.
- There are two serious side effects associated with betaxolol. If you experience either shortness of breath or an irregular or slow heartbeat, seek emergency medical assistance.
- If you experience symptoms of allergic reactions to betaxolol, have someone drive you to the emergency room or call emergency-medical personnel so that you can be monitored. Signs of an allergic reaction include breaking out into hives, skin rash, itchiness, chest tightness, problems with breathing, and swelling of the lips, tongue, mouth and face.
- Some less common side effects reported by patients on betaxolol include impotence, a lowered libido, and the inability (or difficulty) of reaching orgasm. If these sexual side effects do not go away, or intensify, notify your doctor.
- One side effect of betaxolol is the impairment of mental reactions. This can be dangerous if you are engaging in any activity that requires alertness, such as operating heavy machinery or driving a vehicle. Be cautious until you are aware of exactly how the drug affects you.
