How to Rig a Minnow for Fishing

    Rigging the Minnow

    • 1). Tie the hook to the end of your fishing line and attach the bobber about 3 feet above the hook. You can adjust the distance between the hook and bobber depending on the depth of water you are fishing in.

    • 2). Grasp the minnow securely in one hand and have the hook ready in the other.

    • 3). There are three places you can hook the minnow. Insert the hook through the minnow's lower jaw and bring it out through the top jaw, being careful not to hook it too far back on the head, as this can injure or kill the minnow. Other options are to hook the minnow through the back about halfway down the body and one quarter of the way from the top (avoid the spine), or through its body just before the tail.

    • 4). Cast the minnow into the water. The line between the bait and bobber will allow the minnow to swim freely, attracting gamefish to strike.
