How to Disassemble a Kelvinator Clothes Dryer to Replace the Belt

    • 1). Disconnect the power cord of the Kelvinator dryer from the dryer outlet. Move the dryer away from the wall so that you will be able to slide the top panel off the dryer.

    • 2). Disconnect the clamp securing the dryer exhaust hose to the exhaust port with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the dryer hose away from the dryer.

    • 3). Remove the screws that secure the rear access panel to the dryer with the Phillips-head screwdriver. The rear access panel is the grate that is next to the dryer exhaust port. Remove the access panel and you have access to the idler pulley that places the tension on the dryer belt.

    • 4). Locate the two screws that secure the back of the top panel to the rear of the dryer. Remove the screws with a nut driver and slide the top panel toward you to disengage the front tabs. Set the top panel out of your work area.

    • 5). Go to the front of the dryer and remove the four screws securing the control console to the front panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver. There will be two screws on each end inside the dryer cabinet. Unplug the wiring harness from the control board and lift the console of the dryer.

    • 6). Ask a friend to help lift the front of the dryer, and place a piece of board under the front edge of the dryer. Gently lower the dryer over the board. Locate the two screws securing the front access panel to the dryer. Remove the screws with a nut driver and pull the access panel away from the dryer.

    • 7). Look inside the top of the dryer and locate the dryer door switch and the wiring harness. Press in the sides of the wiring harness and pull the harness away from the door switch.

    • 8). Locate and remove the two screws at the bottom of the front panel with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Lift the front panel up to disengage the side retaining tabs. Pull the front panel away from the dryer.

    • 9). Go to the rear access and pull the idler pulley to the right and roll the belt off the motor pulley and idler pulley. Release the idler pulley slowly. Go back to the front of the dryer and pull the drum with the belt out of the dryer.
