Try An Auto Auction First When Buying A New or Used Boat

Let's say you are considering buying a new or used boat.
You've checked all the classified ads in the local newspaper, and you've gone online to Craig's List, but you still haven't found what you're looking for.
Now then, if you are looking for a boat which is no bigger than can be fit onto a trailer and towed behind a beefy pickup truck, you might wish to check with the local auto auction.
First, you need fill out the forms, and prove that you can afford to buy a boat before they will let you bid on one.
If you are buying it for personal use you might get a waiver from the requirements of having a business license or a reseller's permit to buy and sell cars or boats.
If you have a friend of the family, or a friend of a friend who is an auto dealer, either new or used, you might accompany them to the auto auction, let them purchase it for you, and make a deal with them giving them some sort of a commission for their trouble.
This can make things go a lot faster, and streamline your stress level with all the paperwork.
There was an interesting article titled "Boat Sales Rev Back to Life" by Jim Carlton in the Wall Street Journal which stated; "California's slow rebound in boat sales reflects the state's uneven recovery from the recession.
" What does this mean? It means that now that we are in 2013 it might be a good year to buy a boat, and know that it's resale value will be strong enough moving forward in case you feel you should trade up to a bigger boat later.
When you buy a boat at an auto auction, you "buy it as is" including the trailer it is on.
Everything may not be in working order, but you will be able to get a substantial discount, and this could save you "a boatload of money," which is sure to bring you happiness in the new year.
Buying a boat as a fixer-upper will not only save money, but it will put you well ahead of the game.
Often used boats don't cost as much to insure, and if you are able to buy it for 50% less than you might a new one, this should cover all the costs, and then some more with regards to all of the upgrades in maintenance, rigging, interior, and refurbishing.
Indeed it is my sincere hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
