In 2012, Char-Broil brought all its various infrared products under the TRU-Infrared brand name. This grill uses the same technology as previous years RED products with a little more power in the burners to reduce the preheat time. The temperature range of this grill and preheat time is typical of most gas grills. The advantage of this technology is that it seldom flare-ups and is more efficient than standard grills. The shortcoming is the infrared emitter. The gas burners focus their heat at a porcelain coated metal plate. The KitchenAid 3-burner is a classic gas grill with specifications similar to many of the better grills in this price range. Don't buy this grill because of the KitchenAid name.
