How to Install a KitchenAid Cooktop Range

    • 1). Remove any cabinet doors or drawers located beneath the cooktop installation location. Use your screwdriver to loosen and remove the hinge mounting screws and place the doors aside. Pull out each drawer and lift it slightly to remove it from the rolling track on which it sits. The idea is gain the best access to the installation opening as possible.

    • 2). Check that your gas line shut-off valve is completely turned off. When a gas valve is off, the handle portion of the valve will be positioned across the pipe below it, forming a "T" shape.

    • 3). Place the cooktop on its back next to the the mounting opening. Remove any packaging from the bottom of the range. Apply a coating of pipe joint compound to the threads of the gas supply nozzle on the underside of the cooktop. Attach a 1/2-inch gas pressure regulator to the gas supply nozzle, using the wrench.

    • 4). Turn the cooktop over and place it into the mounting opening with the help of an assistant. Lay the cooktop into position so it fits snugly and sits level on all sides.

    • 5). Fasten a 1/2-inch double male adapter to the end of your flexible gas supply line, using the wrench. Fasten the adapter to the gas regulator with the wrench. Coat each set of threads with pipe joint compound as you work. Fasten the other end of the adapter to the pressure regulator extending from the bottom of the cooktop.

    • 6). Remove the bracket mounting screws on the underside of your cooktop, using the screwdriver. Install one of the mounting brackets provided on each side of the cooktop by extending it outward as far as possible, then tightening the bracket mounting screws back in their respective screw holes. The brackets should clamp the cooktop firmly in place.

    • 7). Plug in the cooktop's electrical cord into an outlet mounted within your cabinet. Replace the cabinet doors and drawers. Install your burners and grills. Turn on your gas supply valve and check that each burner lights and burns properly.
