How to Prevent Steel From Rusting
- 1). Scrub off any rust as soon as you notice it, using a scrubbing pad.
- 2). Dry any steel object after each use. A paper towel or cloth will suffice. When moisture gets on the steel, rust starts to form.
- 3). Store the steel in a dry place. Humid basements or garages are not a good choice.
- 4). Keep the steel out of direct sunlight. The heat from the sunlight can accelerate the spreading of any rust that has already formed.
- 5). Apply a lubricant such as mineral oil to the steel. The oil acts as a barrier to the moisture.
