Gout: How We Get It And What To Do About It
Medical science knows what happens.
You get a build-up of uric acid in the blood.
This material then forms crystals in your tissues.
These crystals hurt.
Bad.
Some doctors say that it is the only time they have seen grown men cry.
What you want to know is how to keep this from happening (prevention) and how to get rid of it when it does happen, and how to choose the best therapy for yourself.
Prevention can be accomplished by:
We have all heard of acupuncture.
Auricular therapy is slightly newer and fewer of us are familiar with it.
To put it very simply, electrodes are attached to different parts of the external ear.
Then, tiny electrical impulses are used make the adjustments.
It works.
I have a friend who suffered from gout in spite of the best nutrition and care.
He has had great success with this therapy.
Pharmaceutical treatment using drugs is most common in the U.
S.
Three common drugs used are colchicine, allopurinol, and Uloric.
They have some effectiveness in some people.
All have side effects and problems.
Uloric, in particular is very expensive.
Examples of problems with these include, but are not limited to:
If you choose conventional drug therapy a physician will have to help you.
If you choose natural therapies an Herbalist, Accupuncturist, and Auriculotherapist can help you.
Won't it feel good to be relieved?

What you want to know is how to keep this from happening (prevention) and how to get rid of it when it does happen, and how to choose the best therapy for yourself.
Prevention can be accomplished by:
- Insuring good digestion.
To do THIS:- Chew food well.
This means chew it until the food is almost in a liquid form.
This causes digestive enzymes in the mouth to be mixed with the food.
This is important because the mouth is the place that digestion begins.
A lot of indigestion starts with skipping this step. - Take 1 tsp in water (or 1 capsule) Cayenne before meals or ginger after meals to enhance digestion.
- Peppermint tea after meals enhances digestion
- Do NOT drink liquids along with your meal.
Drinking a liquid with a meal with cause the digestive enzymes of the stomach to be diluted.
Much of the nutritional value of the food is lost in this way.
- Chew food well.
- Stay away from foods high in purine.
- Foods to ALWAYS stay away from (VERY high in purine)
- Liver
- Kidney meat
- Sweet bread
- Anchovies
- Sardines
- Meat extracts
- E.
g.
, lunchmeats
- E.
- Consommés, gravies
- Herring
- Foods moderately high in purine can be eaten in moderation except during an attack of gout.
- Examples: Any other meats, Other fish, Chicken, Turkey, Lentils, Whole grains, Beans, Peas, Asparagus, Mushrooms, Spinach
- Foods to ALWAYS stay away from (VERY high in purine)
- Other problem foods that affect gout.
- Foods high in fats.
The problem with these is that they block elimination of uric acids when taken in high quantities.
Solution? Eat these moderately.
Examples include cheese, eggs butter, and peanuts.
- Foods high in fats.
- Take a Celery seed supplement.
This actually acts by helping to eliminate uric acid better.
Flush out the uric acid and it won't build up and make crystals.
- Take cherry juice.
This is a replacement for the drug colchicine.
The dose is 8-16oz (1-2 glasses) of red or black cherry juice per day.
This one works very well.

- Colchicine makes you sick.
In pharmacy school they teach that it is taken until the patient begins throwing up and that is how you reach the proper dose.
What a sweet drug. - Allopurinol will precipitate an attack at a later time.
So you take it for a while and it maybe works some.
Then, WHAM!, it brings on an attack of gout! - Uloric is just a wonderful drug (note the sarcasm)
- Problems
- $179 per month (at least)
- Blood clots that can debilitate or kill
- Liver dysfunction.
This is a side effect that can kill - Gout Flare: it can make it worse instead of better!
