How to Control Shrubs

    • 1). Wet the soil around the undesirable shrub. Drive a shovel a few feet away from the shrub.

    • 2). Lift the shrub up with the shovel to expose its root system. With gloves, lift the shrub out of the ground. Wet the area again to expose its root system.

    • 3). Cut the roots with a spade to ensure you get the entire root system out of the ground. Throw the pieces of root and shrub away.

    • 4). Till the bare patch of land and spread 2 inches of compost and work into the soil.

    • 5). Plant either grass, flowers, trees or vegetables in the area.
