How to Care for Devil's Ivy

    • 1). Plant a plantlet or several stem cuttings in a pot with well-draining potting soil. Don't worry about overcrowding the pot with too many stem cuttings; a 6 to 8-inch pot can handle between 15 and 35 cuttings initially.

    • 2). Check the soil every few days until you become familiar with the water level needs of the plant. Water the plant lightly around the edge of the pot if the soil is dry about halfway down the soil. Avoid soaking the soil and pour off excess water as necessary; if the plant gets too much water it won't produce healthy roots. Allow the soil to dry halfway between waterings.

    • 3). Position the plant in bright, indirect light.

    • 4). Fertilize the plant once a month during the active growing season with a balanced fertilizer.

    • 5). Prune the ivy back to 2 inches from the soil line in the fall if you want to encourage bushy growth. This helps make the plant look fuller and promotes new growth. Replant the cuttings to make new plants.
