Reupholstering Dining Room Chairs Using a Glue Gun
- 1). Turn the chair over and look at the underside. There will be four screws holding the seat to the frame with L-brackets. Remove the screws going into the seat with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- 2). Lift the seat from the frame and remove any old fabric by removing the existing staples with a flat-head screwdriver.
- 3). Lay the new fabric on the work surface print side down. Center the seat on the fabric, leaving 6 inches of extra fabric around all sides of the seat. Trace the seat, with the extra fabric, with a marker.
- 4). Cut the fabric along the lines and remove the rest of the fabric you will not need.
- 5). Plug in the glue gun and allow it to heat.
- 6). Place the seat with the foam side down on the fabric. Pull the top center of the fabric over the seat and apply a generous amount of glue to the middle of the top edge of the seat. Put the glue gun down and press the seat with one hand while pulling the fabric tightly with the other. Quickly press the fabric onto the glue. Let the glue set for about 5 minutes. Repeat with the bottom edge and then the left and right edges.
- 7). Apply glue to the top right area of the seat, pull the fabric tightly and press it into the glue. Repeat with the top left before moving to the bottom, left and right sides. Do not glue the corners at this time.
- 8). Pull a corner of the fabric straight up and away from the seat. Tuck the fabric, like you are wrapping a birthday gift, and apply a generous amount of glue. Press the fabric onto the glue. Fold the corner over the tuck and apply glue under the fold. Press the fabric into the glue. Repeat for each corner.
- 9). Allow the glue to cool completely.
