Is Buying Nutrisystem a La Carte Cheaper? I"ll Tell You
I often get emails that ask questions that concern how to save money on Nutrisystem.
People often want to know things like which coupons are best or which websites or sellers offer the best deals.
People also sometimes ask if you actually pay less for the foods when you order them individually or buy them "a la carte.
" To know the answer, I'm going to compare two Nutrisystem purchases - one buying the foods separately and one buying the meals as part of a package.
Buying Nutrisystem A La Carte Or As Part Of A Package: Which Is Cheaper?: So, to look at this closely, I'm going to use a typical day of meals as an example.
I've chosen: blueberry pancakes for breakfast (at a cost of $2.
25); the cheese tortellini for lunch ($3.
25;) pizza for dinner ($5.
75;) nachos for a snack (at a cost of $2.
75;) and chocolate cake for dessert (running $3.
00.
) This example gives you five Nutrisystem meals which is what you would typically eat.
Now, you would also be asked to add in fresh, low calories foods as side items, but I am not going to include this in the pricing as I have no way to know what you would chose for this or how much it would cost.
To keep things simple, I'm not going to include tax or shipping in my estimations either.
So, for the day's example that I've given you above, we've spent exactly $17.
This is for one day's worth of foods.
Now, we'll take a look at the same foods as part of a monthly package.
These packages also provide you with the five meals per day.
However, they include enough food to last for twenty eight days as opposed to just one.
The packages allow for you to either chose fan favorites or to create a custom package composed of all of your personal favorite foods.
Now, the examples that I just gave you would be included in the "favorites" package.
This is part of the reason that I chose the foods that I did.
But, you could also chose them and some of your other favorites to customize your own package at no additional cost.
As I said, I'm going to skip shipping, side items, and taxes just to keep things easy, but keep in mind that you would need to add these to any thing that you order.
With that said, the price for the basic "favorites" 28 day package is $299.
If you divide this by the 28 days that are provided, you get about $10.
70 per day as opposed to $17 per day.
So, the package would save you about $6.
30 per day.
Over 28 days, you would be paying about $176 more for the same foods if you were ordering them a la carte.
That's not to say that ordering foods from Nutrisystem individually doesn't sometimes make sense.
Sometimes you just want to test out certain foods.
But, if you're going to give Nutrisystem a fair try and enough time to really evaluate it, the package is substantially cheaper.
I also did not mention coupons because I wanted to keep as many variables out of this as I could.
But, the company allows some pretty generous coupons when you agree to order by the month rather than the day, so this can save you even more than the $176 per month.
Some of the best coupons offer as much as $100 off or 2-3 weeks of meals free.
To get this, you're often asked to enter in a code or to visit the site via a specific coupon or discount link.
But, these savings aren't often offered on a la carte items.
