How to Paint for White Hot Water Baseboards

    Preparation

    • 1). Wash the hot water baseboard using a water-based detergent. Scrub the hot water baseboard with steel wool. Rinse the baseboard with wet rags. Perform this step even if the hot water baseboard already appears clean.

    • 2). Cover the portions of the wall and floor directly adjacent to the hot water baseboard using painter's tape.

    • 3). Position a drop cloth over the floor beneath the baseboard.

    Application

    • 1). Coat the hot water baseboard with etching primer using a 2- to 3-inch polyester brush. Brush horizontally across the baseboard, applying gentle pressure with each stroke. Let the hot water baseboard dry for three hours.

    • 2). Wash the etching primer from your brush using running tap water.

    • 3). Paint the hot water baseboard as you primed it. Apply a high-temperature enamel.
