What is an Assault Course in Inline Skating?

Definition:

An assault or obstacle course is a trail with a combination of difficult terrain, obstacles and/or skatepark structures that work together to create a challenging inline skating, skateboarding, biking, riding, driving or running route. Assault courses are popular today in many of the aggressive, action or extreme sports and are still used for military on-foot training.

The assault courses designed for sports uses like inline skating, BMX and skateboarding can be laid out indoors or outdoors and could be very similar and sometimes exactly the same.

But on the other hand, the heights of structures can vary, the course lengths may change and the course surfaces may be very different for each sport or specialty, too. Sometimes the differences have more to do with the venue that is being used for an event or the available track or road space than any specific sport differences or requirements.

Inline skating activities like skate cross and other action sports events that use an assault or obstacle course are usually races - against the clock or other athletes.
