How Fix Worn Feathered Wood Flooring

    • 1). Load your floor buffer with its medium floor screen. Turn on the buffer and begin moving it over the floor, forward and back, with the direction of the boards. De-gloss the whole surface, making sure not to dig down any deeper than necessary into the surface to get the shine off.

    • 2). Vacuum the dust.

    • 3). Repeat the screening process with your fine floor screen, getting it flat and smooth. Vacuum well.

    • 4). Brush on a layer of polyurethane gloss with your paintbrush, starting at the farthest corner of the room from the entrance. Work your way out across the floor in the direction of the floorboards, applying a thin, smooth coat. Cover the whole floor.

    • 5). Let the gloss set for six hours. Sand very lightly, by hand, with extra-fine sandpaper. Vacuum the dust.

    • 6). Brush on a second coat of polyurethane in the same manner as the first. Let it dry, sand it by hand and vacuum.

    • 7). Apply a third layer of polyurethane. Let it set for 24 hours before walking on the floor.
