Professional Hairstyles for Men
- Professional hairstyles for men, generally, meet certain workplace requirements regarding length, color, style and neatness. In some offices mens' hair is not permitted to touch the collar of the shirt and the neck needs to be cleanly shaven at all times. Hair color should be natural looking and free of unusual streaks, patches and splotches. Spikes, Mohawks and other extreme hairstyles are not permitted. And, the hair should lie in place without the aid of stiff, sticky and shiny styling products.
- The fade hairstyle is short, neat and maintenance free. This clipper cut starts out super short in the nape of the neck and gradually gets longer toward the top of the head. Styling involves a quick tousle and the application of a minimal amount of styling product. While the daily upkeep of this style is simple, frequent visits to the barber are needed to maintain the shortness and neatness of the style. Fades should be trimmed up every two to four weeks.
- By far, the most popular professional hairstyle is the gentleman's cut. This versatile style can be worn in a variety of ways and can include a part on either side, a part in the middle and feathered appearance on the side, no part at all or a slightly tousled, textured look. The length of the cut is approximately two inches all over. Barber visits are required every six to eight weeks to maintain this style.
- A little bit of length may be permissible as long as the hair does not touch the collar. Near shag styles include cuts that measure approximately three to five inches in length. The ears are only slightly exposed rather than cut completely out, and the hair is styled in a tousled, non-restrained manner. This style may not be appropriate for many offices. The style requires barber visits every two to three months.
- Curly styles should be maintained and kept close to the head to look professional. Frizz, excessive height and long lengths are not appropriate. Curly styles should be trimmed to a length that is not more than three inches, and products should be used to control frizz and height.
