How to Get Hard Stains Out of Carpet
- 1). Clean up any excess stain that may still be loose or wet. Use a paper towel or rag to blot up excess liquid; vacuum excess dirt or crumbs with a vacuum cleaner.
- 2). Saturate the stain with warm water or club soda. You can pour the liquid onto the stain, spray it on with a spray bottle or soak a rag and blot it onto the carpet. Allow about 10 seconds, and soak up the liquid with a paper towel or rag.
- 3). Mix 2/3 cup of warm warm water and 1/3 cup of either white vinegar or ammonia. Only use ammonia on light-colored carpets as it has a bleaching effect. Pour, spray or blot the mixture onto the stain, and allow it to work for about a minute. Soak up the liquid and the stain with a paper towel or rag.
- 4). Mix a quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide with the water-vinegar or water-ammonia mixture, and apply in the same way. Peroxide can add a boost of cleaning power for darker stains.
- 5). Soak a rag or towel in undiluted rubbing alcohol, and dab onto the stain. Allow to work for about a minute, and soak up the liquid with the stain. Alcohol can help to remove sticky stains.
