How Do You Build Speaker Boxes?

    • 1). Cut two rectangular pieces of MDF with a circular saw, each piece measuring 8 by 12 inches. Label these with a pencil "front" and "back."

    • 2). Cut two rectangular pieces of MDF with a circular saw, each measuring 6 by 12 inches. Label these "side."

    • 3). Cut two rectangular pieces of MDF with a circular saw, each measuring 7 by 6 inches. Label these "top" and "bottom."

    • 4). Assemble the top, bottom and side panels together into a box. Overlap the edges of the top and bottom panels with the side panels, so the measurements around the perimeter of the box are 8 by 12 inches. Screw the panels together with wood screws and a screwdriver.

    • 5). Cut an opening in the center of the front panel for the speaker with your jigsaw. Use the speaker or the template provided with the speaker as a guide to the size of the opening.

    • 6). Place the speaker into the opening and screw it into place with wood screws and a screwdriver. Attach an 18-inch piece of speaker wire to the terminals of the speaker.

    • 7). Drill a hole in the center of the back panel with a drill and a 1/4-inch bit. Place the panel onto the box and screw it into place with wood screws and a screwdriver.

    • 8). Push the end of the speaker wire attached to the speaker through the opening in the back panel from the inside of the box. Place the front panel onto the box and screw it in place with wood screws and a screwdriver.
