How to Sew a Headscarf
- 1). Cut a square of fabric that measures 20 inches on each side.
- 2). Fold the square in half to form a triangle shape, right sides together. Pin along the two angled sides.
- 3). Sew the fabric together along the angled sides with a 1/2-inch seam. Leave a 3-inch gap on one side so you can turn the fabric right side out.
- 4). Turn the fabric right side out. Tuck the raw edges of the gap under to conceal the edges and pin.
- 5). Unfold the bias tape and place the center of the fold against the long side of the fabric triangle. Position the tape so 8 inches of tape extends from each side of the triangle to make the ties of the head scarf. Pin the tape to the fabric. If you're using a strip of fabric, fold 1/2 inch over on each side lengthwise, then fold the fabric in half lengthwise and press before pinning to the fabric triangle.
- 6). Sew along the edge of the tape to attach it to the fabric triangle. Also top stitch along the angled sides of the triangle to close the gap.
- 7). Wrap the scarf around your head and tie the two ends of the tape together at the nape of your neck. Trim the length of the tape if needed.
