Game Hints & Cheats for "Super Mario Galaxy"
- Although "Super Mario Galaxy" lacks a traditional two-player mode, you can still connect a second controller and get help from a friend. Instead of controlling Mario, the second player controls a "star pointer." Use the second star pointer to collect star bits and attack enemies. When both players press the "A" button simultaneously, Mario will perform a super jump. Player 2 can also use the star pointer to freeze enemies, making them easier to attack.
- Inside the Comet Observatory, you can find a few extra lives at the start of each game. Before traveling to a new galaxy, head to the bottom of the kitchen stairs to find an extra life. You can also find extra lives on the platform beneath the observatory core and in a crate by the star shroom. Once you unlock the red star, check the top level of the observatory and star gateway for additional lives.
- Use this trick to collect free lives from the Comet Observatory infinitely. Once you start a stage, simply exit the dome immediately and the free lives will reappear. You can repeat this process as much as you'd like in order to create a stockpile of free lives. Resetting the game also resets your number of lives to four, so you will have to repeat this process at the start of each game.
- To finish the game and unlock Luigi, you must collect 120 stars from across the galaxies. Once you collect all 120 stars, head back to the Comet Observatory and battle Bowser to finish the game. Once you defeat Bowser, you must replay the game as Luigi. After you beat the game as Luigi and defeat Bowser again, the game unlocks a bonus galaxy. In this bonus gallery you will find the 121st and final star in the game.
