How to Remove Mildew Stains on Cinder Blocks With Vinegar
- 1). Rinse the cinder block surface with a strong spray nozzle attached to a hose, in order to draw away the accumulated dirt and soil. If you cannot bring a hose to the cinder block surface, you must remove the surface dirt by hand using a wet sponge.
- 2). Saturate the entire cinder block surface. If the surface is already wet from your previous dirt removal, skip to the next step. If any part of the block surface is dry, however, soak it with water to create a protective layer. When cleaning with vinegar, vinegar can seep into the pores and weaken stone surfaces over time. The water creates a protective layer.
- 3). Spray the cinder block surface with undiluted white vinegar. Focus on areas specifically affected by mildew growth. Allow the vinegar to remain on the mildew stain for at least 15 minutes, so that it can adequately kill the fungus.
- 4). Scrub the cinder block surface with a firm scrubbing brush. If traces of mildew stain remain, apply a second coat of vinegar over the block and scrub again. Rinse the vinegar from the stone with water.
- 5). Vacuum the cinder block surface to draw out the dormant spores. If the wall has had a chance to dry completely in the sunlight, use a traditional vacuum or a HEPA vacuum with a hose attachment. If the wall has not had a chance to dry fully due to lack of sunlight, use a wet dry vacuum.
