How to Cash Foreign Checks

    • 1). Open a bank account with a bank that accepts foreign checks. Major banks that will accept a foreign check include Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Wachovia. Bring the requirements to open the account, including a government-issued ID card, proof of your Social Security number, proof of residency and any required cash for an initial deposit.

    • 2). Endorse your check by signing it on the appropriate line on the back of the check.

    • 3). Take the check to the bank to deposit. Bring at least two forms of identification, in case the bank requires them. Individual banks have varying processes, but you'll likely fill out and sign a form explaining your bank's fees and holds associated with cashing foreign checks.

    • 4). Wait anywhere from five days to two months to receive your funds, minus fees.
