- 1). Remove the racks from the inside of the dishwasher, if possible. Clean out the drain to make certain it is not clogged with food.
- 2). Pour a mixture of boiling water and white vinegar down the dishwasher drain.
- 3). Scrub the entire inside of the dishwasher with baking soda and a damp cloth.
- 4). Run the dishwasher through its longest cycle using the hottest water. Instead of filling it with dishwasher detergent, fill the receptacles with baking soda instead.
- 5). Sit a dish filled with baking soda inside the dishwasher for a day or two to absorb any remaining odors.
- 6). Call a plumber if the dishwasher still smells offensive to determine if you have a more serious problem.
