How to Clean a Stinky Dishwasher

    • 1). Remove the racks from the inside of the dishwasher, if possible. Clean out the drain to make certain it is not clogged with food.

    • 2). Pour a mixture of boiling water and white vinegar down the dishwasher drain.

    • 3). Scrub the entire inside of the dishwasher with baking soda and a damp cloth.

    • 4). Run the dishwasher through its longest cycle using the hottest water. Instead of filling it with dishwasher detergent, fill the receptacles with baking soda instead.

    • 5). Sit a dish filled with baking soda inside the dishwasher for a day or two to absorb any remaining odors.

    • 6). Call a plumber if the dishwasher still smells offensive to determine if you have a more serious problem.
