How to Care for Wooden Cutting Boards With Oil

- 1). Warm a bowl of mineral oil in the microwave for about five seconds.
- 2). Stand your cutting board up on its end and place it on a towel or rag to absorb excess oil.
- 3). Dip a clean cloth or paper towel into the mineral oil. Rub the cutting board with the cloth, liberally applying the mineral oil to the entire surface. Turn the board so you can see the opposite side and repeat the process.
- 4). Lean the board up against a wall so it is standing mostly upright over the towel. Let the board dry for 20 to 30 minutes.
- 5). Repeat the application process, rubbing more oil onto the board. The board should soak up most of the oil for the first two or three applications. Continue applying oil until the wood will not absorb any more.
- 6). Wipe excess oil off the board with a clean rag. Stand the board up to dry for at least an hour before using.
