Are cheap Bike Tyres any good?

Are Cheap Bike Tyres any good?

This has been a major question people have been asking, especially during this very difficult economic climate that we have been facing worldwide. For many years maybe the answer was no although this cannot be said accross the board. To be honest there are some lovely tyres for scooters and other small ranges where factories in the Far East or Eastern Europe have coped well. This issue was mainly for the big street bikes like your Ducati's, Yamaha R1's, Honda CBR1000, Kawazaki Ninja etc etc Also in the mix we could throw some of the larger Adventure Bikes like the BMW GS.

So when it comes to these expensive bikes there are normally the preimium brands available and we all like to play it safe so we stick with these. Premium brands usually mean premium prices. That's all changed!!! The major manufacturers like Avon, Bridgestone, Conti, Dunlop, Metzeler, Michelin and Pirelli have had to change!! It wasn't a matter of producing an inferior product but more adapting. So for example you get Conti introducing the Motion which is an entry level Sport Touring Tyre. This was a product especially made for this reason. But then the other way around it was to continue producing certain ranges although they where replaced by an newer better range. What we are trying to say is that yes, the lastest tyre is available but the "older" brother is still produced. This doesn't make it an inferior product although it is inferior to the newer range. So going back to Continental you have the new Road Attack 2 but the original Road Attack is available at a lower price.

This strategy has really caught on. This year Avon have their latest Sport Touring tyre the Storm X-M however the "older" Storm 2 Ultra which is a dual compound tyre may I add, is still available at a much lower price. Does that make the product inferior because of the price, ABSOLUTELY NO since it was the premium range just months ago.

Then you have another way around all this. Why not continue producing the popular older ranges since riders love them but this time lets invest and build a massive factory in the Far East to cut costs. This way we still actually make the product with our own nowhow and experience, with our own latest technology but we can take advantage of maybe the lower labour costs and even be closer to the raw material like rubber. This has worked with certain ranges like the Pirelli Diablo and Metzeler Z6 Roadtec.

So back to our original question: Are there Cheap Bike Tyres that are good? the answer? ABSOLUTELY!!!
