How to Change an Address in Canada

    Provincial Government

    • 1). Contact the provincial government office in the new location. To update the address on one's driver's license and vehicle registration, one will need a valid driver's license or registrant identification number, the postal code last reported to the Canadian Ministry of Transportation, and a complete list of the new mailing information and residential address.

    • 2). Contact the provincial government office to update health card status. The health card number is needed in all instances. If one has the red and white health card, which is the older health care, the postal code last recorded in the Ministry of Health files is needed. If one has the newer photo health care, a Canadian citizenship or immigration documents and the new residential address must also be provided at the time of address change.

    • 3). Contact the provincial government office to update an outdoors card. Bring the current outdoors card previously issued, date of birth and new mailing address.

    Canada Post

    • 1). Find the local Canada Post office. When planning a movie, whether it is permanent or temporary, it is important to contact the post office to redirect mail.

    • 2). Fill out and submit a "Change of Address Notification" form. At the time of completion, one must also provide a personal government-issued information card, such as a driver's license or passport.

    • 3). Pay the minimal fee for processing.

    Canada Revenue Agency

    • 1). Contact the CRA as soon as the new resident information becomes available.

    • 2). Log in to your personal account on the CRA website, www.cra-arc.gc.ca. Changes and updates can be made here regarding residential moves. It is also possible to call, fax or mail the new information to CRA. Be sure to include a valid signature, social insurance number, the new residential address and the date of the move.

    • 3). Provide all of the necessary information requested by the government. One can avoid any disruptions to benefit payments, GST/HST credits, child care benefits and working income tax benefits, including advanced payments.
