How to Lay Marble Tile on a Countertop

    • 1). Find the middle of the countertop with your tape measure, and mark it. Make a line there with your level, from front to back.

    • 2). Cut strips of marble tiles to fit on the front edge, using your wet saw.

    • 3). Lay thinset mortar over the front edge. Press tiles there, starting at the center line. Set spacers between the tiles.

    • 4). Set your 2x4 over the tiles and press firmly, to even out the tops.

    • 5). Lay thinset mortar on top of the countertop at the front. Install the front row of tiles, starting at the center line. Position the fronts of the tiles so they cover the sides of the front-edge tiles.

    • 6). Lay more mortar and tiles, building out to the sides and back. Level them out with your 2x4 as before. Cut the end pieces as needed on your wet saw.

    • 7). Remove the spacers. Let the tiles set for a day.

    • 8). Press unsanded grout to the tiled surface with a grout squeegee, squeezing the grout into the lines between the tiles. Wipe up the excess grout off the tile face with a wet sponge. Let the grout cure for 48 hours.
