How to Wire a Bike Alarm
- 1). Place the electric-powered bike in a garage where you can work undisturbed. Stand the bike in the center of the garage so you can access the bike from all angles. Place the alarm module from the bike alarm kit on a work surface. Strip 1/2-inch of wiring from the ends of the wires attached to the module using wire strippers.
- 2). Insert the plug at the end of the cable attached to the sensor into the appropriate socket on the alarm module. Do this also with the LED alert light cable. Refer to the instruction manual that accompanies the bike alarm kit to find which socket is used with which cable.
- 3). Put on a pair of insulated gloves. Loosen the positive and negative screws on the battery that powers the bike's motor with pliers or an adjustable wrench. Wrap the "hot" labeled wire (normally "black") around the positive-labeled screw on the battery. Wrap the "neutral" labeled wire (normally "white") around the negative-labeled screw on the battery. Tighten the screws.
- 4). Lift up the back of the bike's seat. If there is a screw to remove first, do this using a Phillips screwdriver or a Torx screwdriver, depending on the type of screw. Place the alarm module into the compartment beneath the seat.
- 5). Remove the paper backing from one side of the two Velcro latching pads. Place a pad on the bottom of the seat, glue side facing down, at each side of the module. Press down on the pads to secure the adhesive to the seat. Let an hour pass before continuing.
- 6). Place the Velcro hooking strip across the alarm module. Place the ends of the strip onto each pad. Press down on the strip's ends to secure them to the pad. Place the sensor on the seat, next to the alarm module. Compress the wiring from the sensor into the seat so that it is all inside.
- 7). Drill a hole through one of the handlebars using an electric drill. Unscrew the top of the LED module using your fingers. Place the LED through the hole in the handlebar, from the bottom. Screw the top of the LED module back on the LED module to secure it to the handlebar. Tape the wiring going from the LED module to the alarm module to the side of the bike with plastic twist-ties.
- 8). Push the seat back down and reattach the screw, if there was one.
- 9). Test the alarm by arming it using the included key fob. Look for the blinking light of the LED before you shake the bike. Shake the bike to sound the alarm. Press the appropriate button on the key fob to shut off the alarm.
