How to Get Rid of Silver Algaecide Stains

    • 1). Fill a sock 2/3 full of powdered mineral stain remover. Secure the top of the sock tightly with a rubber band so that the powder will not float out when it is submerged. Use a second rubber band to attach the sock to the end of a pole. If the pool has multiple stains, it's best to make more than one pole-and-sock assembly.

    • 2). Place the sock on top of the silver stain. If the stain is on the bottom, use the pole to hold the sock in place. If the stain is on the side of the pool, angle or prop the pole so that the sock stays in contact with the stain. After about 15 minutes, the stain should lighten.

    • 3). Scrub the stained area. Rub the sock over the area using firm pressure and back-and-forth motions. Supplement this scrubbing with the use of the long-handled scrub brush. Between the two tools, you can rub the stains completely away.
