How to Store Craft Bottle Paint

    Prepare the Bottles

    • 1). Remove the lid from the bottle of craft paint.

    • 2). Use a damp cloth to clean the rim of the bottle. The threads of the bottle's rim should be free of paint. Clean the lid itself. Excess paint will cause your cap to stick in the future and prevent a perfect seal, which will allow air to enter the bottle and dry out your paint.

    • 3). Cut a piece of plastic wrap large enough to cover the opening of the bottle and the threads of the bottle's rim. It's OK if the plastic drapes down over the sides of the bottle.

    • 4). Replace the lid on the bottle and tighten. The plastic wrap will provide an airtight seal.

    • 5). Shake the bottle so that the paint coats the entire inside of the bottle. The paint will provide an additional seal.

Store the Bottles on a Shelf

    • 1). Clear a shelf of all other objects. The shelf you use to store the bottles should be used only for the bottles, in order to prevent any paint damage that may be caused by spilled paint. You can use a divider or book stand if the shelf is too long for the amount of bottles you wish to store, but it's better if the shelf is dedicated entirely to your craft bottles, as your stacked bottles will receive more support and be less likely to roll around.

    • 2). Place the bottles of craft paint on the shelf with the top of the bottle toward the back of the shelf, and the bottom of the bottle visible. The bottom of the bottle will allow you to easily see the color of the paint inside. Most bottles are clear, but if the bottle is a solid color, simply dab a little of the paint on the bottom of the bottle as a color indicator and allow it to dry. Stack the bottles as necessary, but no bottles should be behind the first row. You want all the bottles to be visible.

    • 3). Arrange your bottles by color or by frequency of use. When you remove a bottle, it can be replaced on the top of the stack or in the same place from which you removed it.

Store the Bottles in a Drawer

    • 1). Clear a drawer of all other objects. Add shallow storage bins, allowing you to store your bottles in small groups, that can prevent the bottles from falling over.

    • 2). Dab a drop of the bottle's paint on either the top or the bottom of the bottle and allow it to dry. The dab of paint will allow you to identify the color.

    • 3). Place your bottles in the drawer, each standing on end. he end of the bottle that you applied a dab of paint to should be the end that faces up. Be consistent, so that you can find the color of paint you see quickly.
