Carnaval Vegano in Dominican Republic
February is a festive month in Dominican Republic, especially in La Vega.
Independence day is also observed on the 27th day of this particular month and is also known as Carnaval month in La Vega.
Carnaval Vegano or carnival vegan is celebrated each Sunday for the whole month of February.
It is considered to be the best in the whole country and the rest of the Caribbean where estimated 500,000 people crowded the streets.
February is also considered as the month were thousands of tourists visit La Vega to witness a unique festival that's bound to entertain its viewers and participants.
Here are the activities that take place during the celebration: *Opening parade - This usually takes place a few days before the carnival.
Participants would join in with out masks or disguises.
This opens the carnival.
*Concerts - Happens every Sunday.
Usually takes place in the afternoon onwards.
*Miss Carnaval Vegano pageant - A pageant during the festival where the queen of the carnival is chosen.
Candidates will be judged by how they would represent themselves in the pageant.
*Crowning of the King - A contest for male participants where they will be judged and crowned as King of the Carnival for the year.

A parade takes place in the morning in which schools and universities march and dance throughout the streets.
*March 1 - End of Carnaval Vegano.
