Simple Breathing Meditation
One of the easiest places to start in meditation is with a breathing meditation.
The fact that you're reading this proves that you know the basics of how to breathe.
Let's take it one step further.
Try this simple breathing meditation exercise: Set aside about 10 minutes when you won't be disturbed.
You can do this exercise standing up or sitting down, whichever yiu feel most comfortable with.
Take a long, slow deep breath in.
Fill your lungs with air.
Don't breathe in so far that you think you'll burst, but definitely fill your lungs.
Hold the air in your lungs for a second or two.
The object of this isn't to see how long you can hold your breath, it's just to allow your lungs time to get accustomed to being full of healthy air.
Then slowly release your breath.
Breathe out as much of the air in your lungs as you are comfortable with.
Don't strain, but your lungs should feel slightly emptier than they normally do when you exhale.
Repeat this exercise 9 more times, making ten in and out breathing cycles in all.
That's it.
Well done! You should feel more relaxed and refreshed than you did when you started this exercise.
It's an easy exercise to do almost anywhere.
After all, no-one will think that you're odd or weird just because you are breathing.
Aim to do this breathing meditation exercise once or twice a day.
You'll find it easier each time and will probably notice that your lungs fill and empty slightly more with practice.
