The fifty-third Academy Awards were held on Tuesday, March 31, 1981 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Los Angeles Music Center. The ceremony was postponed for one day because of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. Johnny Carson hosted the event.
