Parenting Tips - Two Topics You Must Discuss With Your Teenagers to Survive in the World Today
Our babies are no longer babies, but teenagers.
Where did the time go? It was only yesterday that I was holding her in my arms at the hospital.
It was only yesterday when I prayed and ask God to give me the strength, direction and wisdom to be the mother He created me to be.
Next August she will attend high school.
Ever since her two brain surgeries when she was only six-years old she decided she wanted to be a doctor.
It seems like only yesterday when they wheeled her into the operating room that I stood in the operating room and sang to her "You are So Beautiful to Me.
" Afterwards, looking up and seeing tears in the entire surgery team's eyes.
They were not at all touched by my singing voice because i cannot sang, but by the love i clearly showed for her then.
The love I show even more today.
It seems like just yesterday that i walked out of the operating room and heard her little voice say to me, "Don't cry, Mommy.
I am going to be fine.
" And so she was, to God be the Glory!! Yes, it is because of that experience that my teenage daughter decided at a young age to be a doctor.
A pediatrician, to be precise.
I feel that it is the responsibility of parents to guide, teach, discipline and nurture our children into the direction God has planned for them to go.
It is our responsibility as parents to do all that we can to protect them from the fiery fire of this world.
It is our responsibility to be examples for them to follow.
It is our responsibility to let them know when we, ourselves, fail.
Many of us know children often do as we do, more than as we say.
So we must do all that we can to be the best examples for them we can be.
We must do what we can to help them see their dreams and goals become a reality.
In this world today, our children are faced with many challenges and temptations that we never imagined or experienced in our teenage years.
It is depressing to know that teenagers or anyone having sex can transmit the virus called HIV or AIDS.
It is sad to know that at the time of my writing this article, a cure has yet to be found.
However, much headway has been made to keep those infected healthier for a longer amount of time.
It is my prayer that a cure will be found soon.
This is just one of the major issues our children face today, yet there are many more.
Have you spoken to your children about HIV & AIDS? Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a lentivirus (a member of the retrovirus family) that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a condition in humans in which the immune system begins to fail, leading to life-threatening opportunistic infections.
A term referring to the two stages of the world's most serious immune system disease.
A disease which can be contracted through sexual contact, blood transfusion, or other situations in which bodily fluids are transferred from an infected to a non-infected person.
Yes, it is our prayer as parents that they will save themselves for marriage.
Even believing that prayer is already answered, it is still our responsibility to equip them with as much information and knowledge to be armed to fight the attacks of the enemy in such a world as this.
It is our responsibility as parents to provide them with truthful knowledge before others provide them with lies.
We must plant seeds of wisdom in our children.
We must do all that we can to arm them for this battle.
We must equip them with as many reasons as possible to Say No to the temptations of this world.
The Bible says in Hosea 4:6 "My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.
" Therefore let us equip them with as much knowledge as we can about everything that we can in every area that we can, so that they will not be destroyed simply because they did not know.
The Bible wants us to do this and it says so in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
" While also teaching them that their body is a temple and is special.
The Bible says in Romans 12:1 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.
" While also reminding them of the scripture in John 3:3.
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.
" If you're reading this and do not know God, here is how you can accept Him as Lord over your life, according to Romans 10:9 - 10.
"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
" We don't only want to be sure that they have the knowledge they need on earth to make wise choices, but also the knowledge they need to secure that their eternity will be in Heaven.
Pray and ask God to help lead you and He will.
Then when it is time for them to leave our nest, we can feel confident that we have done the best we knew to do for them.
We must fight and let the enemy know that He cannot have our children, in Jesus' name.
