How to Get a Pattern to Make a Neck Pillow
- 1). Remove the new neck pillow from its packaging and carefully remove the stitching. After creating a 3- to 4-inch opening remove the stuffing and set it aside.
- 2). Separate the two halves of the neck pillow completely and iron the seams flat.
- 3). Lay the fabric pieces on kraft paper and draw the pattern. Add additional seam allowance on the outer side of the pillow to accommodate a zipper. Cut out the pattern with a scissors.
- 4). Prewash the pillow fabric and pillow case fabric to shrink. Iron and pin the pattern to the pillow fabric.
- 5). Cut and sew the pillow together leaving a 3- to 4-inch hole along the inside seam. Reverse the fabric, pulling it through the hole. Stuff the pillow with your preferred stuffing. Hand stitch the opening closed.
- 6). Pin and cut the pillow case fabric. With the right sides together sew the zipper into the outer seam. It should be long enough to easily remove the pillow so the pillowcase can be washed when it's dirty. Sew the outer edge of the pattern. Pull the fabric through the zipper opening.
- 7). Insert the pillow and zip it into place. Test your neck pillow. Your pattern will allow you to make similar pillows for everyone in your family, at a fraction of the cost of commercial pillows.
