Reading with his children is one of the most important things a father can do to encourage literacy and build educational skills in his children's lives.  Check out these books for your school aged children for this summer.  They will enjoy them and you might even enjoy sitting down for a half hour every day and reading it with them!

7. Inkheart

This was one of those books where I saw the movie before I read the book.  But as fun as the movie was, the book is even better.  Inkheart is the story of a girl and her father, a bookbinder who brings stories to real life when he reads them.  At times a bit scary, the book is just riveting and you and your children will love it! More »

8. The Last Brother

Admittedly, I am a history buff and love historical fiction. The Last Brother is set in the Civil War era of U.S history, and tells the story of Gave, who becomes a Civil War bugler in an effort to protect his last surviving brother. The scenes are described so well you can almost feel and smell them; the story teaches of courage and commitment to family; the tale is at times gripping. For dads who love a bit of history, this is a wonderful summer reading book for dad and his kids.More »
