For its bachelor's of arts and bachelor's in science programs, Excelsior College rated 8, which is "Very High Quality," according to the scale. • For materials such as books, lectures and course materials, seven reviewers gave the college a rating of 10, eight gave it a 9 and four gave a rating of 8. There were only two who claimed Excelsior failed in the essentials.

• The institution itself received an overall rating of 8. More than 70 percent of those reviews rated Excelsior College at 9 or above for "Outstanding" and "Exceeded" expectations. Again, two rated it a 4 or below.

• In the area of support, 61 percent said Excelsior College provided support that exceeded their expectations. One student who graduated in January 2009 wrote that the advisers and "customer service was wonderful" being "very helpful and knowledgeable."

• For its use of technology, 81 percent of the current and former students in this review gave the college an 8, "Very High Quality" and above. The wide use of online technology means there are no residency requirements for students and that they can complete the degrees in their own time.

• The teaching staff earned a rating of 8 or higher by 71 percent of the reviewers. As one student said, it was a "great college with great staff."

• Overall, Excelsior College has a reputation as being an exceptional way for busy adults to earn or finish a degree at their own pace. The fact that potential students have the option of testing out of certain courses for credit is highly attractive for many people, meaning their life experience can save them both money and time. For this value, 71 percent rated the college as having exceeded expectations.
