How to Make a Gift Basket With Plastic Canvas

    • 1). Draw an oval base for the basket on the plastic canvas. Draw the oval with a black marker, and make it about 8 inches wide by 11 inches long. Cut out the oval from the canvas.

    • 2). Cut a long, rectangular piece of plastic canvas for the sides of the basket. Make the rectangle about 8 inches wide for a medium-size basket. You will cut the length to size in the next step.

    • 3). Align one long edge against the oval canvas. Wrap the rectangle around the oval base and cut off the excess canvas from the end of the rectangle.

    • 4). Thread the yarn through the eye of the needle. Sew back and forth between the canvas squares at the short ends of the rectangle to hold the shape.

    • 5). Sew stitches between the bottom oval base of the basket and the bottom of the rectangle to hold the basket pieces together.

    • 6). Cut a long strip of plastic canvas. Make the strip about 2 inches wide by 20 inches long.

    • 7). Find the center of one 11-inch-long side of the basket. Hold one end of the canvas strip against the top edge of the basket and sew between the bottom of the canvas strip and the top edge of the basket to attach one end of the basket handle.

    • 8). Hold the other end of the handle to the center of the other 11-inch-long side of the basket, and sew between the bottom of the strip and the top edge of the basket.
