      Sacramento, the state capital of California, sits at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers, providing tourists with chances for river cruises and fishing. This city is a pet-friendly town with hotels that allow pets to stay overnight, as well as off-leash dog recreational areas, such as Jacinto Creek Park and Granite Park. Other pet-friendly locations in Sacramento include restaurants, including Bella Bru and Cafe Melange, that allows pets in their outdoor patio areas.

    • Red Lion is four miles north of downtown Sacramento, and is less than a 10-minute drive from Riverfront Park, a waterfront recreational area that features jogging paths, as well as facilities for fishing. The hotel is also within 20 minutes driving distance of Old Town Sacramento, a district of the city that features buildings that date back to the Gold-Rush era, as well as shops and restaurants. Amenities at this hotel include an outdoor swimming pool, guest laundromat and an on-site restaurant, JB's Bistro, that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Outdoor patio seating is available at JB's. Guest rooms at Red Lion include satellite television, work desk and a private balcony. Some of the rooms have a king-sized or queen-sized bed. As of spring 2010, pets are allowed to stay for a one-time, non-refundable fee of $20.

    La Quinta Inn Sacramento North

    • Located right off Interstate 80, La Quinta Inn in North Sacramento offers its guests with chances for fishing and boating at Folsom Lake, which is less than 20 minutes from the hotel. The hotel is also only 10 miles from the exhibits at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Town Sacramento. La Quinta Inn has amenities such as a conference center for seminars and banquets, outdoor swimming pool and a complimentary continental breakfast. Guest rooms include free access to Wi-Fi Internet, coffee maker and satellite television. As of spring 2010, pets under 50 pounds are allowed to stay at this hotel for free. Guests with pets must be present with their pets when maid service is in their rooms, or the pets must be in a cage.

    Best Western Sandman Hotel

    • Situated on the Sacramento River, Best Western is within five miles from Sutter's Fort State Park, an urban recreational area that features walking paths and the 19th century fort that is now used for weddings and private parties. Sacramento International Airport is only a 15-minute drive from the Best Western. Hotel amenities include fishing facilities on the Sacramento River, outdoor swimming pool, guest laundromat and shuttle services to the airport. Guest rooms at Best Western include a microwave, refrigerator and satellite television. As of spring 2010, pets are allowed to stay at this hotel for $25 per pet. The fee is non-refundable.
