How to Adjust a Craftsman Chain Saw Carburetor
- 1). Place the chain saw on a flat surface.
- 2). Remove the air filter cover with a flat-head screwdriver. The cover is located on top of the carburetor.
- 3). Remove the air filter and clean or replace it. Reinstall the air filter cover.
- 4). Start the engine. Let the engine idle for three minutes. On the side of the carburetor are three adjustment screws; marked directly under them are a "T" for idle speed, "L" for low speed and "H" for high speed or full throttle.
- 5). Adjust the "T" screw with the flat-head screwdriver. Turn counterclockwise to increase the speed and clockwise to decrease it. If your adjustment is to high the chain will start to turn. If adjusted to low the engine will stall.
- 6). Accelerate the engine from idle and observe the performance. If the engine bogs down or hesitates, adjust the "L" screw clockwise in 1/16-inch increments until the performance is satisfactory.
- 7). Advance the throttle into the full-throttle position. Do not run at full throttle for an extended period while adjusting to prevent engine damage. Adjust the "H" screw with the flat-head screwdriver. Turn it counterclockwise to increase the speed and clockwise to decrease it. Keep adjusting until the engine runs smoothly in the full-throttle position.
- 8). Cut into a piece of wood to ensure the adjustments are correct.
