How to Trailer a Prius
- 1). Securely fasten the tow dolly, dolly lights and towing chains to a vehicle properly equipped for towing. After attaching the dolly to the towing vehicle, ensure they are parked on level ground in a straight line.
- 2). De-ratchet the front tire straps and ensure they are located away from the tire platforms.
- 3). Unlock the tire platforms, allowing them to tilt down toward the pavement.
- 4). Drive the Prius up the tire platforms using a guide. Slowly drive forward until the front wheels are positioned against the wheel stops and the tire platforms are lifted off the pavement. The Prius should be centered on the platforms for proper turning of the dolly.
- 5). Re-lock the tire platforms and engage the parking brake of the Prius.
- 6). Center the tire straps over the front wheels of the Prius and secure them using the ratchets; there should be no slack or give.
- 7). Locate the safety chains on the dolly and secure them to the frame of the Prius; allow a small amount of slack for suspension movement. Safety chains should not cross or inhibit any other part of the Prius.
- 8). Disengage the parking brake and lock the steering wheel in a straight position.
- 9). Tow the Prius with a safety check of the towing equipment after the first 100 feet and five miles. Additional safety inspections should be completed every 50 miles while in transit.
