How to Easily Make a Chalkboard
- 1). Remove nails or any other protruding objects from the surface. Sand the surface to remove any bumps or blemishes as needed. Clean the surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt and allow the surface to completely dry.
- 2). Protect the painting area. Place dropcloths on the floor and cover furniture to protect them from possible spills or splatters of paint.
- 3). Place masking tape on areas of the surface you do not want painted.
- 4). Open the paint can. Stir the paint thoroughly.
- 5). Apply two thin coats of paint. Use a foam roller on large areas or a foam paintbrush for smaller areas. Allow the paint to completely dry before applying a second coat.
- 6). Allow the paint to set or cure before using the chalkboard, according to the paint manufacturer's direction. The suggested time may vary from 24 hours to three days, depending on manufacturer.
- 7). Prime the surface by rubbing the edge of a piece of chalk over the entire surface. Erase with a soft cloth or felt eraser. Your chalkboard is ready to use.
