- 1). Fill a large bucket with a solution of nine parts chlorine bleach and one part water. The bucket should be large enough for the entire pot to fit inside it.
- 2). Submerge the pot in the bleach solution. Let it soak for several hours.
- 3). Take the pot out and scrub off any remaining debris with hot, soapy water. Use a wire brush for clay pots and a scouring pad for plastic pots.
- 4). Rinse the pot with water. Use running water to rinse plastic pots. Rinse clay pots by soaking them for several hours in a clean bucket of water.
