Tattoo Ideas for the Neck Area

    Bird

    • A universally beautiful image of a bird either perched or in mid-flight can make a good neck tattoo. There are several types of birds to choose from, each with its own symbolism -- such as a quick and busy hummingbird or a gothic raven. Choose the bird that best represents you and have it tattooed to either the right or left side of your neck at an equal angle to match your jawline. Colorful birds should be done in color to honor the intricacies that set it apart from other birds.

    Names

    • You last name or the name of a loved one or child can be a sentimental tattoo for your neck. There are literally hundreds of fonts and styles to choose from when selecting a script tattoo -- but to make it a little more personal, you can design the font yourself or have a loved one or child design it. You can have this name placed on either the left or right side of your neck, or have it placed on the back of your neck over your upper spine.

    Religious Symbol

    • For many people, religion is the most important aspect of life. If you share this belief you may wish to tattoo a symbol of your faith on either the left, right or back of your neck. It can be anything from a crucifix, Buddha, crescent moon or star of David. It can also be a small portion of a much larger tattoo such as the very tip of an Irish cross you may have on your back.

    Nationality

    • Nationality can be a certain point of pride for many people and a tattoo representing your family lineage can be placed on any portion of your neck. You can choose to represent only one nationality or several based on your particular family heritage. For example, if you happen to be Irish and German you can have a clover filled in the colors of the German flag. Again, color may be ideal for this particular tattoo.
