How to Landscape for a Craftsman-Style Home
- 1). Place plants in front of the porch walls. If you want to hide the walls, install a row of shrubs and trim them so they are a few inches beneath the floor of the porch. If a solid row of shrubs doesn't appeal to you, break them up with flowers planted in between them.
- 2). Plant flowers along the edges of the front walkway to frame the walkway, tie in the yard to the house and accentuate the geometric lines of a Craftsman-style house.
- 3). Install hanging plants along the bottom edge of the front porch roof. This draws attention to a distinctive feature of a Craftsman-style house and enhances the summertime appearance of the porch. If the plants have long vines, they add some privacy to the space.
- 4). Place rope lights around the beams and railing on the front porch to take advantage of this distinctive Craftsman feature. The lights provide soft lighting for people sitting out on the porch and make the view of your house come alive at night.
